Waze now works in standalone Android Auto on your phone

When Waze finally added support for Android Auto last year, it unfortunately required a proper Auto head unit, a discovery that tainted the good news. Google Cloud has been experiencing an outage, resulting in widespread problems with several services

Many products and services these days relies on third-party platforms like Amazon's AWS and Google Cloud to work. After all, everything that can be turned into a subscription can be made into a business, and not everyone wants to run their own data centers or software platforms just to make an app. Unfortunately, that means that when one of those big players runs into a problem, it hits a pretty wide audience. Just earlier this hour, Google Cloud ran into a bit of a snag, and that has trickled over into other products like Snapchat, Discord, Evernote, Pokemon Go, and many others, though it should be resolving.

Apple replaced its executive portraits with Memoji

Today is World Emoji Day, and to get in on the fun, Apple has replaced all of its executives’ headshots with Memoji versions of their faces. Technically, Memoji are not the same thing as emoji. They’re Apple-exclusive characters that are made in the same style as real emoji, and they can’t be included in text or widely shared, like emoji can be, without turning them into an image. But as far as goofy promos go, we’re talking about a made-up holiday anyway, so I think it works.

Isn’t it time we declared our independence from bloatware?

So you’ve just bought the best Windows laptop, you’ve gritted your teeth through Cortana’s obnoxiously cheery setup narration, and the above screenshot is the Start menu you’re presented with. Exactly how special do you feel as you watch the tiles animating and blinking at you like a slots machine? I’ll tell you how I felt as I was getting to grips with the Huawei MateBook X Pro for the first time: perplexed. Perplexed that this level of bloatware infestation is still a thing in 2018, especially on a computer costing $1,499 and running an OS called Windows 10 “Pro.” Why are we still tolerating this?
