Chromebooks are growing in popularity, thanks to their ease of use and straight to the point design. It's easy to get things done using Chrome OS, especially thanks to built-in support for Sheets and Docs, but many of us also like to enjoy some music while working. Up until now, Spotify and Google Play Music worked natively on the platform, but Apple Music users were left out. Although it was still possible to play your favorite tracks through a web browser, the app itself wasn't compatible with Chromebooks, which prevented you from using offline mode. The software was just updated on the Play Store, though, and now brings official support for Chrome OS.
Apple has now shut down Google’s ability to distribute its internal iOS apps, following a similar shutdown that was issued to Facebook earlier this week. A person familiar with the situation tells The Verge that early versions of Google Maps, Hangouts, Gmail, and other pre-release beta apps have stopped working today, alongside employee-only apps like a Gbus app for transportation and Google’s internal cafe app.
Google just disabled a private iOS app that monitored users’ iPhone usage, after it was revealed today that the app violated Apple’s distribution policies in the same way that Facebook’s usage-tracking Research app did.
Apple has shut down Facebook’s ability to distribute internal iOS apps, from early releases of the Facebook app to basic tools like a lunch menu. A person familiar with the situation tells The Verge that early versions of Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and other pre-release “dogfood” (beta) apps have stopped working, as have other employee apps, like one for transportation. Facebook is treating this as a critical problem internally, we’re told, as the affected apps simply don’t launch on employees’ phones anymore.

Shazam pre-dates the smartphone as we know it today, but it didn't become popular until everyone was carrying internet-connected devices that could play music. Then, everyone wanted to know what song was playing in the background. Shazam is no longer the only way to ID songs, but it's the only one now wholly owned by Apple. Why does this matter to you, an Android user? Shazam is about to be free.
A couple of lines of code that runs in any modern web browser by default may crash Apple's Safari web browser, iPhones and affects select browsers as well.
The code uses the backdrop-filter property and a lot of Div elements (more than 3000) to crash Apple iPhones immediately and freeze certain browsers even on non-iOS systems.
Today is World Emoji Day, and to get in on the fun, Apple has replaced all of its executives’ headshots with Memoji versions of their faces. Technically, Memoji are not the same thing as emoji. They’re Apple-exclusive characters that are made in the same style as real emoji, and they can’t be included in text or widely shared, like emoji can be, without turning them into an image. But as far as goofy promos go, we’re talking about a made-up holiday anyway, so I think it works.
Now that we’re past both Google IO and WWDC, we wanted to compare the stuff that both Apple and Google announced. They’re doing very similar things, but Apple is doing it Apple’s way, Google is doing it Google’s way.
