The iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold 8 have new aspect ratios for smartphones and it's challenging the status quo of how we consume video. Meanwhile, vertical video productions are heading to Hollywood. Can two ideas about mobile video co-exist or will one prevail? The Verge’s producer, Andru Marino, brings a foldable to the first ever microdrama festival in New York City to explore what these two sides think is the future shape of video.
Rare The Verge video (that isn't a podcast, and even rarer as not sponsored) and it's in 4:3! (My 5:4 at work is so close...)
"Previous-gen" foldables are not great to watch videos, especially when open, but passport-style foldables are making things a little bit weird/interesting.
Also, are microdramas actually doing well? I remember Blackpills doing vertical content, whose mobile app died like 3 years ago.
